Faraway, So Close, Old Fire Station Theatre, Oxford, 2014 (Devised)

As IDF bullets ricochet off the walls of the packed streets of Jerusalem’s old city, old friends Sophie, Avi and Rashid take temporary refugee in a tiny, hole-in-the-wall cafe, overlooked by a mysterious host. No longer protected by the apparent equality of a cloistered UK university, once-tight friendships stretch and fray under the strain of real-world identities and allegiances.

Faraway, So Close is a compelling, contemporary theatre piece, exploring the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Britain’s legacy in the region and what this might mean for British citizens today. At times hard-hitting, at times humorous and playful, Faraway, So Close weaves together sound, film and symbol with a physical-theatre storytelling style that immerses audiences in aspects of this complex conflict.

Faraway, So Close premiered at the Old Fire Station Theatre, Oxford and was developed with the generous support of Arts Council England, Oxford City Culture Fund, CREATE, Oxford Dance Forum, Lush, Seedbed and many individual donors who supported the GoFundMe campaign.
